Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey recently ordered the American Flag be flown at half mast for dead singer Whitney Houston.
Those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for comrades and country have been dishonored by the Governor’s decision.
The Flag is the ultimate symbol of our country and all we stand for. 50 stars for the 50 states, and 13 stripes for the original 13 colonies who fought British Tyranny to launch the greatest social experiment in the history of the world stands for so much more than Whitney Houston has ever done with her life.
I am not by any means saying she wasn’t a great singer and performer, she will always be that in the eyes of millions, but to equate her life as a star and then a drug addict that ultimately ended in some narco-related death is an affront to those who have served. The Flag is not to be regarded in such a way ever.
“I Pledge Allegiance the flag of the United States of America”. I don’t recall anything mentioning that the flag was a tool for the politically correct to curry favor.
The Flag Code or United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1-The Flag doesn’t state the governor has any right to order the flag to half mast for a Celebrity. So, what we have instead is celebrity pandering by a politician-again.
I for one am sick of this and for the Governor to invoke the lowering of the flag is another sad example. This is something Governor Schwarzenegger would have done and one would not have thought as much from the pride of some in the so-called “conservative elite”. This is something one would entirely expect from the Left Wing sycophants, but now it has apparently begun to infect the other side of the aisle.
I hope that God has Whitney Houston with him now and that she has proclaimed her faith and has gained access to an eternal life. That is between her and the Lord and we should celebrate her life, but in the process we should not equate her to valiant thousands who have fought and died for the flag.
Once again, political correctness tramples the law.
